Bread 20 Spring St (Mott St)
212.334.1015
Yet another white brick, cafeteria-esque, cozy nook in the heart of trendy Nolita (we can't get enough of them). Bread is a low-key paninni parlor specializing in what its name presumes and whether it's ciabatta or a baguette, any ingredients they pile between the slabs will most surely have you satisfied and craving for more. Paninis range from homemade mozzarella with tomato and basil, to Italian tuna, to shrimp with arugula and avocado. Be sure to try the eggplant parmigiana or the braised beef with polenta. My all-time favorite dish, however, is none other than Bread's homemade tomato soup. But before you doubt my palate (you're probably thinking, what's so special about tomato soup?), let me just explain that the mix of not-too-creamy base with Parmesan and fresh bread is not only satiating, it's the type of concoction that, just as the cliche claims, actually warms your soul. And did we mention that all the "bread" is provided by Balthazar, which is right up the street. So whether you happen to be in the area for lunch, or you've planned a trip to this auspicious hole-in-the-wall for dinner, we offer our guarantee that the food is always good and the staff is always cheery and ready to serve. If you're not in the mood to sit in the restaurant (I don't know why you wouldn't be) Bread offers both delivery and take-out service.
