Degustation Wine & Tasting Bar
239 East 5th Street
212.979.1012

A Foodie MUST! Degustation Wine & Tasting Bar actually suitably summarizes this underground gourmet grotto. Degustate, meaning to taste food with great enjoyment and appreciation. The dining fixture is literally a U-shaped counter lined with 16 seats, boasting an extensive wine list featuring international labels. They do not serve any hard liquor, and all the dishes are of the “small-plate” family. With an emphasis on Franco-Spanish wine, a menu with no more than 20 delicious choices of fare, and a seemingly isolated feel, Wesley Genovart, the owner and former chef of Perry St. and Jack Lamb, have created an ambiance of elegant sophistication. The sojourned setting mixed with the side-by-side seats makes it very difficult for a party of more than two. Our menu favorites are the croquetas, the Spanish quail eggs, and the stuffed squid. Perhaps it is the focus on food and drink that make it seem so exclusive. And since you are watching the culinary sages as they make their magic, it really feels like you are dining at an ultra selective chef's table.
