Falai
68 Clinton St (Corner of Rivington St)
212.253.1960

If you haven't been to Falai, make some plans, get off your ass and head down to the Lower East Side [LES] asap. The food here reflects chef Falai's roots in Florence and is all prepared "fatto in casa," or on the premises. Even the bread, which is some of the best in this city, stands out-six different types, warm, utterly fresh and with complex flavors. The seafood appetizers are delightful, as are the main fish courses such as branzino or langoustines. Homemade pasta is unbelievable, whether cocoa-infused pappardelle with venison ragout, gnudi with brown butter and sage, an Italian fave, or the divine gnocchi with pesto. Meat dishes are equally amazing, especially the rack of lamb. Falai also has a terrific list of Italian wines and no meal will be complete without a selection of Falai's delicious desserts (opt for the classic millefoglie or profitterol, but absolutely have the passion fruit souffle, if it's available). Simply put, Falai is one of the utmost Italian restaurants in the city, priced very well, Falai is not to be missed. Lastly, don't forget to check out the restaurant's garden, which we happen to think is one of the most charming places to dine in New York City.
