This chic American tavern is an old staple to the Gramercy district. It has the Danny Meyer Midas touch, so it's no wonder this restaurant has lasted over 20 years. Designed with meticulous care, this countrified local is second-to-none in the art of welcoming decor. Famed Bentel & Bentel architects, award winning restaurant designers, have created a rustic, hospitable vibe with Robert Kushner murals, beautiful floral arrangements, sparkling candles, and a room full of pastoral antique treasures. The maitre'd and waiters only add to this cozy feeling by offering unparalled service and undivided attention. And their knowledge of the food and wine is impressively superlative. This is probably the only restaurant where they allow you to sample the wine before deciding which label would best complement your meal. Just remember red goes with meat and white goes with fish. But any of their choices are just divine, as is the menu, which includes a succulent rack of lamb and a heavenly chocolate coconut tart with almond chocolate ice cream... I'm salivating just writing about it. Warning: Sometimes the dinners run long, so sit in the Tavern. The food is just as good, and the dining experience is not as formal (always our choice).
